I am. I can't help it.
Were I to go to Hogwarts, I would be sorted into Ravenclaw, and carry an 11-inch wand of willow.
Seriously. Internet quizzes and Pottermore confirm it.
So it made sense to go back and re-read this series that I absolutely adore.
This time, I read the first few books in hardbound form, and then about halfway through, I began listening to the audiobook recordings.
Jim Dale, the reader, wasn't really my cup of tea at the start. I believe I would have preferred to listen to the UK Stephen Frye recordings, but they are expensive and not readily available.
So I downloaded the audiobook versions from Audible.com, and began to listen.

It was a great change of pace, truthfully, and I found myself enjoying the novels in an entirely new ways through listening to them. In particular, I found that I enjoyed The Deathly Hallows in a whole new way by listening--there were so many more intricate details that I am afraid I sometimes miss when I am looking at words on the page.
Ultimately, that's my overall conclusion about Audiobooks: I manage to get way more out of novels I listen to because I literally have to listen to each and every word in a way that I don't when I am literally reading a book. If you haven't tried Audiobooks, I would highly recommend it: check out your local library, GoWyld (if you are a Wyoming resident, the State Library has a great Audiobook lending library called AudioOne), or look at subscribing to Audible.
And if you haven't read the Harry Potter Series...
You should!!
I know there's all kinds of opinions and stigma and nerd rage and stuff that go with admitting that you like Harry Potter, but here's the truth: Rowling is an incredible author, with careful attention to world building, plot, and character development. Each book in the series addresses some pretty powerful lessons about having character, making good choices, standing up for what's right, and fighting for what you believe in. Plus, the series was groundbreaking, if you take time to study the book industry. Young Adult literature, which is a hot commodity in the publishing and reading world right, basically didn't really exist before Rowling wrote Harry Potter. So that's one heck of an accomplishment.
So go read some Harry Potter. And watch the movies. And visit Pottermore. Because nerd raging is awesome!
The boys and I are listening to these in the car and then watching the movies at home! Love these books. I've read them all at least three times.
